At the Temple of Seti I in Abydos, what remarkable feature is carved into a ceiling beam in the hypostyle hall — a curiosity that has fuelled fringe theories about ancient flight?

The so-called 'Abydos helicopter' is a palimpsest — the royal titulary of Seti I was plastered over and recarved with that of his son Ramesses II, and as the plaster fell away over millennia, the overlapping hieroglyphs created shapes that coincidentally resemble modern machines to a modern eye.
